Use the following calculator to get a rough estimate of the revenue potential for a certain keyword. It is prepopulated with numbers from one of my sites with a fairly good/consistent revenue stream. Adjust the numbers accordingly for your own sites.
There are two main uses of this calculator:
- You can estimate whether a keyword or offer is worth targeting based on rough data assumptions
- You can see how much more revenue you can generate by increasing your front page ranking
Monthly Volume = Total exact match searches from a search engine
CTR (Click Through Rate) = Percentage of people who click your offer/banner/link from your site. Found by doing: (total clicks/total uniques) * 100. Input a percentage (IE: 24)
CVR (Conversion Rate) = Percentage of people who convert on the landing page after clicking through from your site. Pretty much all affiliate networks will just give you a percentage. Use the last full month’s worth of data to get an accurate view. Input a percentage (IE: 24)
CPA (Cost Per Acquisition/Offer Value) = The payout of the offer. Input as dollar amount (IE 9.50)
Some Notes:
- This uses the CTR breakdown from the Cornell Eye Tracking Data [PDF] a few years back. Use this data with a BIG grain of salt, it can vary widely
- Just because Google is the big dawg doesn’t mean you won’t get traffic/conversions from other Search Engines. I have sites that convert way better on Yahoo and Bing than they do on Google. Depends on the offers/keyword/demographics

Just tested it with my mini-campaign real data – calculator gave quite accurate results.
Your remark about Yahoo and Bing traffic – you must be right. My new site get traffic from Y and B first and I’m happy with overall conversion. It start getting traffic from Google and it doesn’t look so promising anymore.
I though you will make readers to subscribe in order to use a tool or at least tweet it – especially after your previous post
Hey, great to hear the data is accurate for your stuff too. It’s definitely interesting to check out demographic data and see how different search engines bring different conversion numbers. I’ll probably do some posts covering setting up tracking to see specific data for all the search engines soon.
I almost did the pay with a tweet thing on this, but I’m saving it for other stuff
Thanks for the comment!
