For most people focusing on Organic SEO traffic, having your keywords in your meta titles and descriptions is a no brainer. But there’s a lot more that goes into effectively using meta titles and descriptions on your sites, and I want to take a little time to go into the theory behind how to make effective meta titles and descriptions that can turn into more traffic and conversions for your sites.
According to SEOMoz, having your keywords in your meta title (and description) is the 4th most important thing you can do to help with your rankings. This is something I definitely agree with, but there is also the human side of why you should focus on these elements that I really want to cover. Your meta tags are your mini sales force on Google, and you need more than just keywords to get increased traffic.
I’ve been brainstorming a bunch of different things I want to write about here over the last few days, and I’m sort of at a cross roads. There are a bunch of coding related posts that I want to do up, and most of them will become actual series’ of posts because of the amount of detail I want to go into. I also have a few different case studies I want to write up, because some people have been asking me to do some and I think they could be pretty useful for people (I know I love seeing actual tangible reports of what people have done, not just fluff).
The coding stuff I can jump right into technically, but there are a few more fundamentals I want to go over before doing so. For the case studies, I want to go into a lot more detail with the other parts of Market Samurai, as I use that tool heavily when investigating and researching a new niche, and I don’t want to go into a case study and then have to take a step back to explain how to use the tool as well.
So as of now, here is my somewhat settled on game plan for moving forward. If anyone wants to chime in and let me know their thoughts on what they want to see or if they just plain don’t give a shit about some of the things I want to write about, please, jump on here and let me know. Here we go:
That should be a nice solid base for moving forward on other topics. As for case studies, here’s what I have so far:
I would imagine those two case studies will span at least a half dozen posts each, so they will take some time. But I don’t want to jump into them before I’ve written the other pieces from above because I want them to stay on track as much as possible and just get to the point.
I’m going to try and get at least one of those posts from the first list up tonight. Please comment on here if you want to see me go into anything specifically or add to the list.
Thanks!

For all of you webappers out there, here’s a sweet little plugin for having basically a Google Calendar clone for your projects. It even hooks up to Google Calendar feeds so you can administer things on the backend.
Someone with more time than myself should make this a WordPress plugin that saves to the WP Database because that would be really damn useful for all the clients that need to manage their events on the site. I might even try and tackle that soon if I find the time.
Looks like the whole thing works with AJAX and JSON feeds, so it should be pretty easy to tie into existing apps/systems.
Check it out: FullCalendar
This one is a little bit more on the basic side, but I think it’s something important that needs to be covered, so it’s a good place to start this blog at. Market Samurai is a ridiculously cool tool. It isn’t particularly doing anything secret or ahead of the curve, it just gathers a lot of data from a lot of different sources and displays it in a very clean and organized way.
Now, some of the modules in it don’t make a whole lot of sense when you first open them. Once you get used to it though, you can use it to quickly analyze the difficulty of a niche to get an idea of whether or not it’s a worth attempting to crack it for an SEO project. I’m not professing to be an expert, but I think the following pointers can help clear some things up for people who use this tool but are curious about all of the little extras in it. So here it goes…
I’ve tried blogging a few different times in the last couple of years. Each time, as I’m sure it goes with nearly every blogger, I go at it full blast and then realize “man, no one is actually reading this thing…” and then I find motivation quickly sprinting away from me. It’s the inherent issue with blogging: it’s hard to get an audience without content, and it’s hard to write more content when you have no audience.
In that last two years, I’ve gotten pretty seriously into programming and web development, and in the more recent past, have gotten really heavily involved in Internet Marketing, SEO, Local SEO, and Link Building, especially Automated Link Building. These topics all have hundreds of different facets and are really fascinating when viewed from the technical perspective, because they offer a tangible, monetizable use for a lot of seemingly abstract techniques and ideas. That boils down to fun for most tech guys.
So I decided to resurrect this old domain, and I’ve started off by ripping out all of my old posts and going to a simple, plain theme. Before, I wrote about some personal things as well as Development things, but this time around, it’s all Biz Nass. I’m going to be focusing on all of the above mentioned topics, as well as spending some time writing about some advanced uses for WordPress, because it has become a very dominant CMS and I spend all day hacking it one way or another so might as well chronicle my adventures.
So to anyone who subscribes to this blog (all 5 of you currently), sorry, but this thing’s gonna get really nerdy really fast. But that’s the nice part about growing up, you’re allowed to be nerdy and people can’t criticize you
I’ve already started asking around on Wickedfire for some blog topics, and have a good idea of things I want to write up anyways, so I’ll try and do my best and bring some substance to this thing as frequently as possible. Please feel free to let me know what you want to see here, I’m definitely open to suggestions and want to actually contribute some value so I’m all ears (eyes?).
I’m going to try and kick this thing off with a real post tonight, depends on how far I get with other work.
Til next time.
